Football: Aguero says sorry to Luiz for Wembley lunge

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has apologised to David Luiz for his ugly two-footed foul on the Chelsea defender in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium. Aguero launched into Luiz with his studs showing and caught the Brazilian high on the back of his left leg towards the end of the game, which City won 2-1. However, he escaped retrospective punishment from the Football Association because match referee Chris Foy saw the incident at the time and awarded a free-kick in Chelsea's favour.

Brazilians lead way in international transfer market

LONDON (Reuters) - Brazil's reputation as a source of top football talent was underlined on Tuesday by a report showing that Brazilians were the most heavily traded players on the international transfer market last year. Clubs spent a total of $2.53 billion (1.65 billion pounds) on recruiting players from other countries, down 10 percent on the previous year, according to a study by FIFA's Transfer Matching System (TMS).

Football: No FA action over Aguero challenge

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero won't be punished by the Football Association for his ugly challenge on Chelsea's David Luiz in their FA Cup semi-final clash. Aguero escaped without punishment from referee Chris Foy after the Argentina international threw himself into a ferocious two-footed lunge on Luiz late in the second half of City's 2-1 win at Wembley on Sunday. Luiz was lying prone on the turf after tangling with Aguero moments earlier and the centre-back appeared to take the full force of the challenge.

Football: Man City not seeking salvation, says Kompany

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has rejected suggestions that his side's entire season hangs on whether or not they can overcome Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup final. City defeated Chelsea 2-1 in the semi-finals on Sunday to reach their second final in three years, two years on from the 2011 success against Stoke City that ended the club's 35-year trophy drought.
