Premier League to adopt goal-line technology

London, Apr 11 (EFE).- The 20 clubs in England's Premier League agreed Thursday to install goal-line technology for the 2013-2014 season. The Premiership becomes Europe's first top-flight national league to adopt the technology, though FIFA has announced that it will use goal cameras for this summer's Confederation Cup and the 2014 World Cup. Hawk-Eye, a British subsidiary of Sony, will install seven cameras behind each goal at the 20 Premier League stadiums and the replays will be provided to broadcasters.

The midfielder has been at the club since he was 12, helping them rise to the top flight from third-tier League One. "I'm absolutely delighted. To commit my future to the Club for the next five years is something I'm really happy about," Lallana told the club website.

Football: Financial controls for Premier League clubs

English Premier League clubs voted on Thursday to bring in new financial regulations in a bid to address over-spending. The controls limit increases in players' wage bills and oblige clubs to restrict losses to £105 million ($162 million, 123 million euros) over a three-year period. However, the clubs agreed that any profits made from player sales cannot form part of the spending restrictions on players' salaries.

All 20 clubs voted to approve the technology, which involves the use of seven cameras behind each goal, at a meeting of Premier League executives on Thursday. The English top flight will be the first domestic league to adopt goalline technology.

Derby win prompts City to start plotting for next season

By Sonia Oxley MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) - Manchester City's 2-1 win over Premier League leaders Manchester United on Monday was too little too late for manager Roberto Mancini who is already focusing his attention on next season's title race. Sergio Aguero's outstanding 78th-minute winner allowed champions City to close the gap on their neighbours to 12 points but it was more of a 'nice-to-have' result than a fate-changing victory for this campaign.

Football: Champions City keep faint title hopes alive

Sergio Aguero came off the bench to grab Manchester City a 2-1 win against rivals United at Old Trafford and close the gap at the top of the Premier League to 12 points. James Milner had put the visitors ahead with a deflected effort straight after half-time before Vincent Kompany's own goal levelled it up for the home side. However, Aguero replaced Samir Nasri before firing in at the near post with 11 minutes remaining to claim the three points and move City closer to leaders United.
