Sainsbury's in talks with Lloyds over Sainsbury's Bank control

LONDON (Reuters) - J Sainsbury <SBRY.L>, Britain's third largest supermarket group, said on Tuesday it was in advanced negotiations with Lloyds Banking Group <LLOY.L> to take full ownership of the Sainsbury's Bank joint venture. Tesco loses ground to Sainsbury in UK food market - Kantar

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's third-largest grocer, J Sainsbury <SBRY.L>, expanded its market share in the 12 weeks to March 17, while industry leader Tesco <TSCO.L> and No. 4 player Wm Morrison <MRW.L> lost ground, according to monthly data published on Tuesday. Market researcher Kantar Worldpanel said Sainsbury's sales grew 6.2 percent in the period, giving it a market share of 16.9 percent. Tesco's grew 1.1 percent as the wider market grew 3.9 percent, while Morrison's sales fell 1.0 percent.

Convenience stores, online help Sainsbury top forecasts

By James Davey LONDON (Reuters) - J Sainsbury, Britain's third-biggest grocer, beat forecasts for underlying sales in its fourth quarter, with strong growth online and in convenience stores more than offsetting a weaker performance in its traditional outlets. Online sales and convenience stores are the two fastest growing areas for Britain's supermarkets as shopping habits change, with consumers increasingly using the internet to shop and high fuel prices discouraging trips to town centres and out-of-town malls.

Interserve full-year profit rises 7.7 percent

Feb 27 (Reuters) - British support services and construction company Interserve Plc reported a 7.7 percent rise in profit, helped by a strong performance at its core support services division. The company said it expected more growth in 2013, to progress well, driven by improving margins in the petrochemical sector and plans to expand support services businesses, especially in the Middle East.

Sainsbury has record Christmas though growth slows

LONDON, Jan 9 (Reuters) - J Sainsbury, Britain's No. 3 supermarket, met forecasts for underlying sales in the Christmas quarter, though growth did slow from its first half in a highly promotional festive market. The group, which trails market leader Tesco and No. 2 player Wal-Mart's Asda by annual revenue, said on Wednesday sales at stores open over a year rose 0.9 percent, excluding fuel, in the 14 weeks to Jan. 5, its fiscal third-quarter.
