Kaymer pleased to be quick on the draw these days

By Tony Jimenez LONDON (Reuters) - Martin Kaymer had just seized his first victory in a major and was riding high at number one in the world rankings but a fourth successive missed cut at the U.S. Masters prompted him to completely revamp his game. It was back in 2011, eight months after landing the U.S. PGA Championship title, that the young German decided he could no longer tolerate the fact he was unable to shape his golf ball from right to left.

Mickelson looks for European Tour fillip in Abu Dhabi

(Reuters) - British Open champion Phil Mickelson makes a rare European Tour outing this week when he competes in the $2.7 million HSBC Abu Dhabi Championship. The first event of the tour's annual Middle East swing, which also includes the Qatar Masters and Dubai Desert Classic, starts on Thursday and features Mickelson and three other golfers from the world's top 10 - Henrik Stenson, Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia.

Dominant Donaldson not put off by freak penalty

SUN CITY, South Africa (Reuters) - A freak penalty stroke did little to deter Welshman Jamie Donaldson as he posted a second-round 66 at the Nedbank Golf Challenge on Friday to top the leaderboard with an 11-under-par total of 133. A storming outward 31, including five birdies, gave Donaldson a three-stroke halfway lead at the Gary Player Country Club on a somber day following the death of former South Africa president Nelson Mandela.

Nearly man Zanotti leads French Open as favorites struggle

(Reuters) - Paraguay's Fabrizio Zanotti, one of the nearly men of the European Tour, grabbed a one-stroke lead in the second round of the French Open near Paris on Friday while overnight leader Anders Hansen had a day to forget. Zanotti, three times a runner-up on tour, the last time at the 2012 Irish Open, shot his second 68 to finish six-under-par and ahead of a group that included 42-year-old Dane Thomas Bjorn.
