Golf: Ballesteros Jnr misses cut in Dubai

Javier Ballesteros narrowly failed to make the cut in his first European Tour appearance at the Dubai Desert Classic on Thursday, but the Spanish amateur said he intends to be back for more. Handed an invitation to play in the $2.5 million tournament as his late father Seve's representative as a former winner of the event on its 25th anniversary, the 23-year-old Ballesteros carded a fine second round of 71. That left him one over for the tournament and just outside the cut to play at the weekend.

The name Ballesteros returned to grace the Dubai Desert Classic on Thursday in the form of the legendary Seve's son Javier. It was the first time that the 23-year-old Madrid amateur had teed off in a top-tier European Tour event and it came on an invitation as part of the celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of the Gulf's premier tournament. Javier represented his father in Tuesday's former Champions Challenge when he shot a creditable 74 in the company of his fellow Spaniards Jose Maria Olazabal and Miguel Angel Jimenez.
