Kaepernick leads 49ers to 34-24 win over Falcons

U.S. Sports Desk, Dec 24 (EFE).- Linebacker NaVorro Bowman and quarterback Colin Kaepernick were the big stars in the San Francisco 49ers' 34-24 win over the Atlanta Falcons on "Monday Night Football." The win sealed a spot in the National Football Conference playoffs for the 49ers (11-4) and kept them in the hunt for the Western Division title. "We're taking it one game at a time. We're trying to string wins together," Kaepernick said.

49ers claim playoff spot in dramatic fashion

(Reuters) - A dramatic, fourth-quarter interception return clinched a playoff spot for the San Francisco 49ers as they edged the Atlanta Falcons 34-24 on Monday to celebrate their final regular season game at Candlestick Park. With the 49ers leading just 27-24 and about two minutes left, Atlanta drove down to San Francisco's 10 yard-line before quarterback Matt Ryan saw his pass intercepted by Navorro Bowman, who took it 89 yards for the clinching score.

Preview: Falcons at 49ers

With a home playoff game unlikely, the San Francisco 49ers probably are playing their final game at Candlestick Park on Monday night when they host the Atlanta Falcons. And it's a big one - the 49ers can clinch a playoff spot with a win or an Arizona loss. "I get chills just talking about it," 49ers tackle Anthony Davis told the team's website. "It's not the best looking stadium, but there's so much history there. It's an honor to be able to play in it the last year it will be here. I don't take that for granted."

NFL Team Report - St. Louis Rams - INSIDE SLANT When a team in the NFL is eliminated from the playoffs, it can sometimes be a challenge to remain focused and, as former New York Jets coach Herman Edwards once famously said, "play to win the game." Veteran leadership helps, and that was evident in the way the St. Louis Rams played in their 26-17 victory over New Orleans Sunday.
