Boxing: Sanchez denies Sosa

Mexico's Juan Carlos "Zurdito" Sanchez lost his International Boxing Federation super flyweight title on the scale, but he didn't let Argentina's Roberto Domingo Sosa win it in the ring on Saturday. Sanchez earned a 12-round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Sosa, using his height and reach advantage to keep Sosa largely at bay while landing his own punishing shots. Sanchez punctuated his victory with a knockdown in the 12th and was given the win by a margin of 117-110 from two ringside judges with the third scoring it 116-111.

Boxing: Stevenson stuns Dawson with one-punch TKO

Adonis Stevenson stopped Chad Dawson with a single, swinging left-handed punch at 1:16 of the first round on Saturday to capture Dawson's World Boxing Council light heavyweight world title. Stevenson, a Haitian-born Canadian who at 35 has fought just 22 professional fights, improved to 21-1 with 19 wins inside the distance. Dawson, who was trying to bounce back from a 10th-round loss to Andre Ward in a fight in which Dawson stepped down to super middleweight, instead suffered an even more embarrassing defeat, falling to 31-3.

Boxing: Huck defeats Afolabi on points

Germany's Marco Huck retained his WBO cruiserweight title with a points win over Briton Ola Afolabi in Berlin on Saturday. Huck claimed his 36th win from 39 bouts with two judges siding with him (117-111, 115-113) with the third judge making it a draw (114-114). This was Afolabi's third defeat of his career with his record now reading 19-3-4. sg/nr

Boxing: Huck ready to 'destroy' Afolabi

Germany's Marco Huck is hoping to punish Ola Afolabi for all his verbal provocations when he defends his WBO cruiserweight title against the British fighter in Berlin on Saturday. "He's starting to get on my nerves, this time I am going to destroy him," said Huck ahead of what will be the third confrontation between the two. The 28-year-old German of Serbian origin won his first fight against Afolabi by a unanimous decision in December 2009 before their second meeting ended in a draw in May last year. Huck has won 35 and lost just two of his 38 fights to date.

Boxing: Dawson defends title against KO artist Stevenson

Chad Dawson returns to his comfort zone Saturday when he puts his World Boxing Council light heavyweight title on the line against knockout artist Adonis Stevenson. Dawson's last foray in the ring saw him stopped in the 10th round by Andre Ward on September 8, in a fight for Ward's super middleweight world titles. Dawson was pummeled by Ward, who knocked him down in the third and fourth round before his final barrage ended it in the 10th. Dawson fell to 31-2 with 17 wins inside the distance.

Boxing: Mayweather to fight Alvarez in Las Vegas

World welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather will put his undefeated record on the line when he fights Mexican champ Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on September 14 in Las Vegas. "I chose my opponent for September 14th and it's Canelo Alvarez," the 36-year-old Mayweather tweeted Wednesday night. "I'm giving the fans what they want." Mayweather fought May 4 and remained unbeaten with a unanimous decision over Robert Guerrero to keep his World Boxing Council welterweight belt.

Boxing: Lewis warns Froch not to underestimate Ward

Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis has warned Carl Froch not to take victory for granted if he gets his wish to fight American Andre Ward. Froch defended his IBF super-middleweight title and took Mikkel Kessler's WBA belt with a unanimous points decision win over the Dane at London's 02 Arena on Saturday. Froch has only lost twice in his professional career, but one of those defeats was against Ward and retired British star Lewis thinks his compatriot will have to improve significantly to beat the American.

Carl Froch on Sunday called on Andre Ward to meet him in a rematch after unanimously out-pointing Mikkel Kessler in a world super-middleweight title unification fight. The Briton relieved Danish fighter Kessler of his World Boxing Association (WBA) super-middleweight title to add to his International Boxing Federation (IBF) belt after being awarded scores of 118-110, 116-112 and 115-113 at the O2 Arena in London.

Carl Froch enjoyed sweet revenge by unanimously out-pointing Mikkel Kessler in an epic world super-middleweight title unification fight on Saturday. The English boxer avenged a 2010 points defeat to the Dane after a disciplined display behind his jab earned scores of 118-110, 116-112 and 115-113 in front of 18,000 fans at the O2 Arena in London. But Froch, who maintained his piston-like jab through out, lived dangerously in the 11th when he was caught by a series of big hooks before both fighters abandoned defence to land bone crushing punches in an enthralling last round.

Boxing: Froch predicting late stoppage of Kessler

Carl Froch is predicting he will stop Mikkel Kessler inside 10 rounds in their world super-middleweight title unification fight on Saturday. Both boxers will be putting world titles on the line for a rematch in front of 18,000 fans at the O2 Arena in London after Englishman Froch weighed in at 11 stones 13 pounds 9 ounces and Denmark's Kessler tipped the scales at 11 stones 12 pounds 7 ounces at Friday's weigh-in.
