Oosthuizen sidelined after recurrence of back injury

(Reuters) - Former British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen will be out for two weeks after suffering a recurrence of a long-standing back problem, his management company said on Tuesday. The 31-year-old South African has been told to rest after having cortisone injections. "My back has been sore during the last few tournaments and it has been frustrating," Oosthuizen said in a news release. "I'm hopeful the injections will free up the problem and enable it to go away completely."

Open is a pain in the neck for injured Oosthuizen

By Martyn Herman GULLANE, Scotland (Reuters) - Former champion Louis Oosthuizen withdrew from the British Open halfway through his opening round on Thursday with a recurrence of a neck-related injury. The South African, a surprise winner at St Andrews in 2010, had labored to four over par after eight holes on a baking Muirfield course when he quit on the ninth.

Golf: Injured Oosthuizen out of Open

South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen withdrew from the British Open after nine holes of the first round at Muirfield on Thursday with what appeared to be a leg injury. The 2010 Open champion at St Andrews was playing with Tiger Woods and Graeme McDowell and was four over when he shook hands with his partners and called for a buggy to take him back to the clubhouse. It was the second straight major that Oosthuizen has failed to finish having withdrawn before the second round of the US Open at Merion Golf Club last month with a strained hip flexor. ak/gnf

Golf-Oosthuizen reels in Jamieson to win by one in Durban

DURBAN, Jan 13 (Reuters) - World number six Louis Oosthuizen fired a six-under-par 66 to overhaul third-round leader Scott Jamieson and win the Volvo Golf Champions by one shot on Sunday. Jamieson had held a five-stroke advantage after 54 holes but seven birdies from the 2010 British Open champion Oosthuizen gave him a sixth European Tour win on 16-under 272 ahead of Briton Jamieson (72), who nearly holed a chip at the 18th to force a playoff.
