RHP Jordan Lyles logged seven innings for a third consecutive start, allowing one run on seven hits with five strikeouts. Lyles is 3-0 with a 1.61 ERA over his last seven starts and has not allowed more than two runs in any of those appearances. That streak is the longest in the American League this season. 1B Carlos Pena snapped an 0-for-17 skid with his three-run home run in the fifth inning. The home run was his seventh this season and his first in 36 at-bats dating to June 5 against the Baltimore Orioles. His three RBIs represented a season high.

LHP Zach Britton pitched 5 1/3 innings in his second start this season and got the win, giving up just one run on six hits to Detroit. Britton wasn't overpowering, getting just one strikeout, but kept the ball down and recorded nine outs on ground balls. He was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday, where he went 3-2 with a 3.28 ERA in 60 1/3 innings. Britton has an affinity for Comerica Park, where he pitched seven shutout innings in August last season. The victory likely earned Britton another start next week against Cleveland.

RHP Nate Eovaldi made his 2013 major league debut Tuesday, giving up two runs and three hits in six innings, although he did not get a decision in Miami's 3-2 loss at Arizona. Eovaldi, the principle piece in the 2012 trade-deadline deal that sent SS Hanley Ramirez to the Dodgers, struck out three and walked one. "I thought he looked good. You saw his velocity, it was very impressive, above 95, 96 (mph) the whole night. His whole outing, his arm looked good," manager Mike Redmond said.

RHP Kevin Correia is having one of those up-and-down seasons. He makes his team-high 14th start of the season on Wednesday and has an ERA of 3.97, the lowest among the starters who were in the rotation to start the season. In-season call-ups PJ Walters (3.23) and Samuel Deduno (3.26) have lower ERAs, but both have made just five starts. Correia also has given up more hits (97) and more home runs (14) than anyone on the staff. It's no surprise that those figures, coupled with a lack of run support, translate into a so-so 5-4 record.
