NFL: Cowboys' Romo inks contract extension

Dallas star quarterback Tony Romo has reached a six-year contract extension which would reportedly make him the highest paid player in Cowboys history. The 32-year-old Romo was offered an extension despite leading Dallas to just one NFL playoff victory in the last nine seasons. The Cowboys don't want to risk losing Romo, who would have become an unrestricted free agent after the 2013 campaign.

NFL-Cowboys release defensive coordinator Ryan

Jan 8 (Reuters) - The Dallas Cowboys released fiery defensive coordinator Rob Ryan on Tuesday after another disappointing season that saw them miss the playoffs. Ryan, the twin brother of New York Jets coach Rex Ryan, had spent the last two seasons with the Cowboys where his demonstrative demeanor made him a colorful figure on the sidelines. The Dallas defense did not show enough improvement, however, as they struggled with injuries and finished last in the NFL in interceptions.
