The Tigers, the trendy preseason pick to win it all in 2013, have lost outfielder Kim Joo-chan for six to eight weeks. Kim took a pitch to his left hand in a game against the Hanwha Eagles on Wednesday and X-rays revealed a broken wrist. The team said he will undergo surgery on Friday, a day later than initially scheduled.

CHANGWON, South Korea, April 3 (Yonhap) -- The NC Dinos, the newest member of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), lost their inaugural game against the Lotte Giants on Tuesday, but the Dinos' manager Kim Kyung-moon said he still saw hope for his team. The Dinos, the league's ninth club, played their first-ever KBO game before a sellout crowd of 14,200 at Masan Stadium here in Changwon, about 400 kilometers southeast of Seoul, in South Gyeongsang Province. The Giants, though, spoiled the party, by blanking the Dinos 4-0.

Baseball-Telecoms firm KT gets green light for 10th Korean team

SEOUL, Jan 17 (Reuters) - South Korean telecoms firm KT has won the right to own the country's 10th professional baseball team and will join the top flight KBO in 2015, the company announced on Thursday. Former state-owned monopoly KT was given the stamp of approval at a Korean Baseball Organisation (KBO) general meeting, where owners of the league's other nine teams gave it the edge over conglomerate Booyoung Group.

Jan 9 (Reuters) - South Korean baseball underlined its continuing growth by posting a record $33 million in revenue last year, local media reported on Wednesday. Winning gold at the Beijing Olympics and finishing runners-up at the 2009 World Baseball Classic boosted baseball's popularity and attendances crossed the 7 million-mark for the first time last year, Yonhap News agency reported.
