Stuttgart set up German Cup final with Bayern Munich

BERLIN (Reuters) - VfB Stuttgart edged past surprise package Freiburg 2-1 on Wednesday to set up a German Cup final against Bayern Munich and secure a European spot for next season. With Bayern having already clinched the Bundesliga title this season, Stuttgart, 12th in the league and off the European spots, are assured a place in next season's Europa League even if they lose the June 1 final in Berlin.

Football: Koo hopes to re-join relegation fight

South Korea midfielder Koo Ja-Cheol has said he is just a fortnight away from re-joining Augsburg's relegation battle to stay in the Bundesliga as he recovers from a stomach muscle injury. "I need two weeks more, I don't have any pain anymore," said Koo, who is hoping to play in Augsburg's home game against Stuttgart on April 27. The player said he now only has pain when he turns quickly. The 24-year-old picked up the injury in South Korea's 2-1 win over Qatar in Seoul at the end of March in a World Cup qualifier.

Win gives Augsburg hope of avoiding drop

BERLIN (Reuters) - Two goals from South Korean Ji Dong-won threw relegation-threatened Augsburg a lifeline with a 2-0 victory on Sunday over Eintracht Frankfurt who lost ground in their fight for a Champions League spot. The 21-year-old man of the match scored midway through the first half to break a personal goal drought of 981 minutes when his shot was deflected into the net as Augsburg, in the relegation playoff spot, looked the livelier side.

South Korea striker Son Heung-Min breathed life back into Hamburg's Europa League aspirations with two goals in their 2-1 win at Mainz which broke their three-match losing streak in the Bundesliga.
