MAPLE, Ont. - The Great One firmly believes the NHL will return to Quebec City. The Quebec capital has been without an NHL franchise since the Nordiques left in 1995. But hockey legend Wayne Gretzky said Tuesday his gut feeling is that Quebec City will again have its own pro hockey franchise.

Assault charges dropped against former NHL star Vincent Damphousse

MONTREAL - The Crown has withdrawn domestic violence charges against ex-NHL star Vincent Damphousse. The prosecution announced today that it has withdrawn six charges of simple assault against the ex-star, explaining its decision to do so after going over the case. The withdrawal of the charges means an acquittal for Damphousse. However, his ex-wife Allana Henderson will continue to face charges in a separate assault case where Damphousse is the alleged victim. Her trial has been set for January 2015.

NHL: Datsyuk inks three-year extension with Wings

Russian center Pavel Datsyuk signed a three-year contract extension with the Detroit Red Wings that will last through the 2016-17 season, the National Hockey League club said Tuesday. The deal, reportedly worth $23 million, follows the last remaining season on his seven-year contract worth $46.9 million and ends speculation he might return to his homeland to play in the Kontinental League after next season.

Home of Senators changes name from Scotiabank Place to Canadian Tire Centre

OTTAWA - The home of the Ottawa Senators is getting a new name. Scotiabank Place will be renamed the Canadian Tire Centre, the team announced Tuesday. Senators owner Eugene Melnyk said the new strategic partnership between Senators Sports Melnyk said the agreement had been in the works for the past two months and will officially take effect July 1, 2013.

Detroit center Datsyuk agrees three-year contract extension

(Reuters) - Standout center Pavel Datsyuk has agreed to a three-year contract extension to remain with the National Hockey League's Detroit Red Wings, he said on Tuesday. Datsyuk, who has played his entire 11-season NHL career with the Red Wings, has one year left on his current contract and must wait until July 5 to sign and file with the league a contract that starts in the 2014-15 season. The Russian, a three-times NHL All Star, confirmed the agreement in a posting on Twitter.

Stellar Rask shuts out Chicago, Bruins lead 2-1

By Steve Keating BOSTON (Reuters) - Boston netminder Tuukka Rask collected the shutout but had to share the spotlight with team mate Dan Paille as the Bruins blanked the Chicago Blackhawks 2-0 on Monday to take control of the Stanley Cup Final. Rask has been center stage throughout the Final while Paille has gone from role player to leading man after scoring the overtime winner in Game Two and finding the Chicago net again on Monday as Boston grabbed a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Blackhawks bemused as unflappable Rask basks in glory

By Steve Keating (Reuters) - The Chicago Blackhawks are finding out what the Pittsburgh Penguins already knew - that Boston Bruins netminder Tuukka Rask is pretty good. The ice-cool Finn was unbeatable again on Monday, stopping all 28 shots he faced to backstop the Bruins to a 2-0 win over Chicago and a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Stanley Cup Finals.

NHL: Bruins beat Blackhawks 2-0, edge ahead in series

Tuukka Rask stopped 28 shots on Monday to lead the Boston Bruins to a 2-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks and into the lead in the NHL Stanley Cup finals. The Bruins took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven championship series thanks to second-period goals from Daniel Paille and Patrice Bergeron. In the third, the Bruins relied on Rask to preserve the lead and once again he came through with his third shutout of the playoffs.
