Soccer-Maaloul replaces Trabelsi as Tunisia coach

TUNIS, Feb 17 (Reuters) - Nabil Maaloul has become the new coach of Tunisia, replacing Sami Trabelsi, who resigned following the side's early exit from the African Nations Cup last month, the country's football federation announced at the weekend. Contract terms for the former international midfielder have yet to be announced but the 50-year-old has only one month to prepare for his first game in charge, against Sierra Leone on March 23.

Football: Maaloul succeeds Trabelsi as Tunisia coach

Nabil Maaloul will succeed Sami Trabelsi as coach of Tunisia, the national football federation announced this weekend. Trabelsi quit after the Carthage Eagles failed to reach his mimimum target of a quarter-finals place at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa. Tunisia missed a penalty when held 1-1 by Togo in a match they had to win to deprive the Sparrow Hawks of second spot in Group D behind Ivory Coast. Maaloul, who guided Tunis club Esperance to the 2011 CAF Champions League title, got the nod over fellow former national team star Khaled Ben Yahia.

Soccer-Tunisia draw against Gabon in Nations Cup warm-up

ABU DHABI, Jan 10 (Reuters) - Tunisia turned in another unconvincing performance in an African Nations Cup warm-up friendly on Thursday and were fortunate to hold on to a 1-1 draw against Gabon. Tunisia took a 15th-minute lead and looked comfortable through the first half but allowed Gabon an equaliser soon after the break and might well have lost had their opponents been sharper in front of goal.
