Fifth seeded John Isner claimed his sixth career title and first on clay by beating Nicolas Almagro in straight sets in the final of the US Clay Court Championships on Sunday. The hard-serving American blasted seven aces en route to a 6-3, 7-5 win over the Spanish clay court specialist at River Oaks Country Club in Houston. Isner, who was the runner-up in this event last year, went one better this time, being broken just once in the 81-minute match.

Only this time Monaco and runner-up Isner will meet in the Houston semi-finals after Isner booked his spot with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Ricardas Berankis earlier in the day.

US number one John Isner says the knee trouble that kept him out of the Australian Open is behind him and he's "ready to go" for this weekend's Davis Cup tie against Brazil. The World Group first-round tie will open on Friday with American Sam Querrey taking on Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci. Then Isner will take on Thiago Alves. "My knee hasn't been bothering me," said Isner, ranked 16th in the world. "I feel like I'm ready to go." On Saturday the US sends the formidable doubles duo of brothers Bob and Mike Bryan against Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares.
