Jaguar Land Rover to lift investment at UK engine plant

GENEVA, March 4 (Reuters) - Luxury car maker Jaguar Land Rover plans to increase investment at its UK engine plant and double employment at the site to around 1,400, its chief executive said on Monday. Ralf Speth told a press conference ahead of the Geneva car show that the firm planned to increase investment at the plant to over 500 million pounds ($754 million).

Jaguar Land Rover mulls manufacturing in India: report

Jaguar Land Rover, the British luxury car unit owned by Tata Motors, is considering manufacturing vehicles from scratch in India, a report says. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) currently assembles some cars in India with parts shipped from Britain. Manufacturing the whole car in India would make it cheaper, as it would save on government import taxes and labour costs. Alleged drunk driver kills two Paris police in chase

An alleged drunk driver killed two Paris police officers on Thursday after slamming his black Land Rover into their cruiser during a high-speed chase. Police vehicles attempted to intercept the 22-year-old driver, who according to police sources had been convicted five times previously of driving without a licence, after his 4x4 was seen driving erratically early Thursday. Police gave chase when he attempted to escape and during the pursuit he drove the Land Rover at high speed into a police car attempting to block his path on the ring road around Paris.

India's top vehicle maker Tata Motors said Thursday its net profit had halved -- its first such decline in fifteen months -- as domestic demand for cars slowed and competition increased. The company said its global operations, including Jaguar and Land Rover, showed that consolidated net profit for the three months to December halved to 16.2 billion rupees ($294 million), from 34.06 billion rupees a year earlier. This was much lower than the consensus market forecasts of 28 billion rupees.

Rolls Royce to name BP director as new chairman -report

Feb 13 (Reuters) - Aero engineer Rolls-Royce is set to announce on Thursday the departure of chairman Sir Simon Robertson and the appointment of his successor, Ian Davis, Sky News reported on Wednesday citing sources familiar with the move. Davis, who sits on the board of BP, will take over from Robertson after the company's annual meeting in May. Sky News reported that Davis, a former McKinsey partner, had been in job talks with Rolls Royce for several months.
