Rugby Union: France call up fresh talent as Michalak misses out

France coach Philippe Saint-Andre produced a surprise on Monday when he left out Toulon fly half Frederic Michalak and Montpellier back Francois Trinh-Duc from his Six Nations squad. Saint-Andre handed debut call-ups to Stade Francais trio Jules Plisson, who plays at centre, as well as back row forward Antoine Burban and wing Hugo Bonneval, while Castres back Geoffrey Palis is also included for the first time. The team are set to wind up their preparations for the tournament, won last year by Wales, at a training camp beginning on January 19 in Canet-en-Rousillon.

RugbyU: Stade edge Perpignan for third straight home win

Stade Francais recorded their third successive home win on Sunday with a 19-12 win over Perpignan in a scrappy and hot-tempered encounter. Victory saw Stade move into second, two points behind leaders Clermont, although if results don't go their way later they could be fifth by day's end. "That is what we wanted, three straight wins at home," said Stade captain Sergio Parisse. "It was tough going out there against a solid and resilient Perpignan side but we just about deserved to keep our heads in front.

Tax take up in top economies, says OECD

Tax revenues in the world's top economies rose last year to the highest levels since the global downturn in 2008-2009, the OECD said Tuesday, suggesting a gradual recovery. The average tax revenue-to-output ratio in the 30 leading economies measured by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development was 34.6 percent in 2012, compared to 34.1 percent and 33.8 percent in the two years before that.

OECD sees outlook improving in major economies

PARIS (Reuters) - The outlook for most major economies has improved, with the euro zone gathering momentum as its debt crisis subsides, the OECD said on Monday. The Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said its composite leading indicator, covering 33 member countries, indicated growth had returned to its long-term trend rate.

Football: PSG, Lyon buses attacked ahead of French league clash

Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon have confirmed to AFP that their team buses were both stoned on their way to the Parc des Princes for Sunday's Ligue 1 clash. "The bus was stoned and the front right window was broken," a PSG staff member said, adding that the incident occurred near to Chaville, a town in the suburbs of the French capital. Lyon's press officer later added that their team bus was attacked too, saying: "Two minutes before we arrived at the stadium, a stone was thrown at one of the side windows."

S. Korea registers highest gain in life expectancy of OECD countries

SEOUL, Nov. 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has enjoyed the largest gains in life expectancy over the past four decades among a group of 34 mostly rich nations, new health data showed Thursday. In 1960, life expectancy in South Korea was almost 16 years below the average of member states of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). But as of 2011, South Korea's life expectancy stood at 81.1 years, a full year above the OECD average of 80.1, according to the health data posted on the website of the OECD.

OECD lowers growth outlook on risks for emerging markets

Growth in advanced economies will pick up speed this year and next, but mostly at a slower pace than forecast as new risks loom, especially from emerging economies, the OECD said on Tuesday. Japan and the eurozone will both do slightly better than expected this year and next as austerity policies retreat, monetary stimulus is maintained and financial conditions improve, the OECD said.
