14 people killed in clashes with Mexican police

At least 14 people died Wednesday in a series of clashes between gunmen and federal police in Michoacan state, a western area that has seen a surge of violence in recent years attributed to drug cartels, authorities said. Police arrest 10 on murder, drug charges in northeast Mexico

Mexico City, Apr 11 (EFE).- Ten people were arrested by the Federal Police on murder, drug, kidnapping and cattle rustling charges in the northeastern Mexican state of Tamaulipas, the National Security Commission said. Federal Police officers spotted two vehicles on a highway near Ciudad Victoria, the capital of Tamaulipas, trying to evade a checkpoint and whose "occupants had firearms and were tossing metallic items on the pavement," the commission said in a statement. Officers stopped the two vehicles and arrested the 10 people aboard.

19 Die in violence in Mexico

Morelia, Mexico, Apr 11 (EFE).- At least 19 people died in drug-related violence in the western Mexican state of Michoacan and the southern state of Guerrero, officials and community leaders said. Eight lemon pickers were killed and several others wounded in an attack Wednesday in Apatzingan, a city in Michoacan, by gunmen suspected of being on the payroll of the Los Caballeros Templarios drug gang, community leaders said.

9 militants killed in Afghan military operation
