McCartney named Britain's richest musician for 25th year

Former Beatle Paul McCartney has been named Britain's wealthiest musician for a 25th year running in an annual "rich list" compiled by The Sunday Times newspaper. McCartney shares an estimated £680 million ($1.0 billion, 798-million-euro) fortune with his third wife Nancy Shevell, an American heiress who is worth around £150 million alone, according to the broadsheet. McCartney, 70, has topped The Sunday Times' list of richest British and Irish musicians every year since it was created in 1989, when he was worth an estimated £80 million.

Joss Stone murder plot man jailed for life in Britain

A man was jailed for life on Wednesday for plotting to rob and kill British pop star Joss Stone with an accomplice and dump her body in a river. Kevin Liverpool, 35, and his co-accused Junior Bradshaw, 32 -- who will be sentenced at a later date -- were arrested in June 2011 a few miles (kilometres) from Stone's rural home in the county of Devon, southwest England. An array of weapons -- including a samurai sword, hammers and a metal spike -- were found in their battered car after they were arrested.

Animals rock veteran Eric Burdon writing memoir

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Eric Burdon, the singer of the 1960s blues-rock band The Animals, is writing a memoir detailing his five decades in the music industry, publisher Alfred Music said on Tuesday. The book, entitled "Breathless," will be released late this year, the publisher said. Burdon, 71, best known for merging U.S. blues music with 1960s British rock and roll, said the book will be a way for him to recall and recount the many details of his musical life.

Paul McCartney to kick off world tour in Poland

Paul McCartney will kick off a world tour in Warsaw on June 22, four days after he turns 71, the former Beatle's official website annouced Wednesday. McCartney's appearance at the National Stadium will be his first-ever show in Poland, said, adding that his "Out There!" tour would feature music from his entire career. McCartney will also perform in Vienna on June 27, the website said, with confirmed dates for concerts in other cities to be announced "in the coming weeks."
