UPDATE 1-Soccer-10-man Burkina Faso end long wait for Nations Cup win

(Adds details, quotes) NELSPRUIT, South Africa, Jan 25 (Reuters) - Burkina Faso, reduced to 10 men for the last 30 minutes, ended a run of 17 matches and 15 years without an African Nations Cup finals win by beating Ethiopia 4-0 to go top of Group C on Friday. Two thumping left-foot shots from Alain Traore were followed by late goals for Djakaridja Kone and Jonathan Pitroipa as Burkina Faso recorded their first win at the tournament since 1998.

UPDATE 1-Soccer-Traore's late equaliser denies Nigeria opening win

By Mark Gleeson NELSPRUIT, South Africa, Jan 21 (Reuters) - Alain Traore grabbed a last-gasp equaliser to hand Burkina Faso an unlikely 1-1 draw with Nigeria at the African Nations Cup on Monday and leave all four sides level in Group C. The midfielder, whose selection was a gamble because he was still injured when the squad was submitted, came off the bench to earn his side a morale-boosting share of the points when he converted a cut back from Jonathan Pitroipa.

Soccer-Burkina Faso earn a point with last kick of the game

NELSPRUIT, South Africa, Jan 21 (Reuters) - Burkina Faso equalised with the last kick of the game to force a 1-1 draw with Nigeria and leave all four teams in Group C equal on one point from their opening games at the African Nations Cup after hosts Zambia drew 1-1 with Ethiopia earlier. Nigeria appeared to have done enough to secure a laboured win thanks to an opportunist 23rd-minute goal from Emmanuel Emineke who reacted faster than the defenders to a clever flick from Brown Ideye.

Soccer-Rennes beat Montpellier to reach League Cup final

PARIS, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Goals to Julien Feret and Mevlut Erding earned Stade Rennes a comprehensive 2-0 home win over Montpellier and a place in the French League Cup final on Wednesday. The duo found the back of the net early in each half as Rennes set up a Stade de France clash with St Etienne after Les Verts beat Lille on penalties following a goalless draw on Tuesday. The final, featuring two clubs who have never reached that stage in the competition since it started in the 1994/95 season, will be played on April 20.

Soccer-Doubtful Pitroipa crosses continents just in case

Jan 14 (Reuters) - Injured Burkina Faso winger Jonathan Pitroipa is risking a wasted journey of mind-boggling proportions by leaving their African Nations Cup training camp to try to be fit for Stade Rennes' French League Cup semi-final. The 26-year-old has been given permission by Burkina Faso to make a quick trip from Africa to Europe and back again as Rennes, looking for a first trophy since 1971, are keen to pull out all the stops against Montpellier on Wednesday.
