LONGUEUIL, Que. - In a career filled with milestones, add this one to the list of achievements by Chris Hadfield: sending in a resignation notice from outer space. It turns out that the famous astronaut informed his superiors of his intention to leave the Canadian Space Agency a few months ago while he was still on the International Space Station. Hadfield broke the news to the rest of the planet on Monday. At a news conference during his first visit back to Canada since his recent return to Earth, Hadfield announced that his career at the space agency will end on July 3.

International crew takes short cut to space station

By Irene Klotz CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) - A Russian spaceship took a shortcut to the International Space Station on Tuesday, delivering a veteran cosmonaut, a rookie Italian astronaut and an American mother on her second flight to the outpost in less than six hours. The capsule slipped into its berthing port at 10:10 p.m. EDT about 250 miles above the south Pacific Ocean. "Everything went very well," NASA mission commentator Kelly Humphries said during a televised broadcast of the docking.

International trio takes shortcut to space station

An international trio flying in a Russian capsule docked the International Space Station on Wednesday with a busy schedule full of space walks and an encounter with a pioneering US cargo craft. The six-month mission of Russian commander Fyodor Yurchikhin and his two flight engineers -- Karen Nyberg of NASA and Italian Luca Parmitano of the European Space Agency -- began once their craft sidled up to the orbiting lab six hours after blasting off from the Moscow-owned Baikonur space centre in Kazakhstan.

So, is astronaut Chris Hadfield interested in politics?

That determines the fate of our country," Hadfield said Friday in an interview from Houston. "But for me personally, right now, I have no aspirations at all."

Now that he's back on Earth, he can't even drive a car for the next few weeks. It's been an intense adjustment period for the 53-year-old astronaut who described Thursday how, after months of floating in weightlessness, he's suddenly grappling with the painful effects of gravity.

How spaceman Hadfield's sons pushed him to social-media stardom

MONTREAL - Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield may have become a worldwide Internet sensation with his dramatic photos, tweets and musical performances from space. But it took some convincing by his two sons to persuade him of the importance of social media in the first place. His conversion began several years ago — long before Hadfield's mission to the International Space Station, which ended with great fanfare this week. He initially balked when his sons began preaching the merits of Twitter and Facebook more than three years ago.
