Brussels, Apr 12 (EFE).- The European Police Office said Friday that Mexican criminal gangs are trying to establish themselves as major players in Europe's drug market and reportedly have been involved in the region in cases of weapons and human trafficking. Mexican drug gangs are now "global market coordinators" of cocaine trafficking to Europe and North America, as well as of synthetic drug production and distribution in those two markets and in Asia, Europol said in a press release.

Few speedbumps on Asian carmakers' road to Europe

The economic crisis in Europe has a silver lining for Asian carmakers which are gaining sales and market share on the continent at the expense of ailing European competitors, observers said on Wednesday. Last year, just 12 million new cars were sold throughout the European Union -- the lowest number since 1995 -- and 2013 has gotten off to a bleak start as well. But as European automakers like PSA Peugeot Citroen, Renault, Fiat and Opel struggle to bounce back, Asian rivals have expanded their traditionally far smaller presence on the continent.

RugbyU: Fiji coach urges players to look beyond Europe

Fiji's top players should look for contracts in Australia and New Zealand rather than Europe if they want to improve their game, national coach Inoke Male said Wednesday. While Europe remains the most popular destination for Fijian internationals playing club rugby, Male said its restrictive style often cramped the natural flair the Pacific islanders bring to the game. In contrast, he said, the type of game in Australia and New Zealand suited Fijians better and they often settled in those countries more readily than in European nations.

France's Hollande urges Europe to stop drug traffic in Sahel

French President Francois Hollande urged Europe on Tuesday to fight drug trafficking in the Sahel region because "terrorism feeds on narcotics trafficking" in west Africa. In his first address to the European Parliament since taking office last year, the French president said his decision to send troops into Mali to drive back Islamist insurgents was taken "within the framework of international law". "There was no time to lose," he said, otherwise "terrorism would have conquered all of Mali.
