Cricket: New Zealand have England firmly on ropes

New Zealand were in command of the series-deciding final Test on Monday as they set England a record 481-run target after Peter Fulton notched up his second century of the match. England were in immediate trouble in their run chase with Nick Compton out for two and they went to tea at 45 for one with Jonathan Trott on 24 and Alastair Cook on 19. There are four sessions remaining in the Test with the series locked at 0-0 after the first two, rain-affected, encounters were drawn.

Cricket: Finn's career best keeps England in hunt

Fast bowler Steven Finn equalled his career best Test figures of six for 125 as England fought their way back into the deciding third Test against New Zealand at Eden Park on Saturday. At stumps on the second day, England were 50 for two, 393 runs in arrears after dismissing New Zealand for 443 soon after tea. Finn, who in the morning session claimed the prized New Zealand scalp of Peter Fulton for 136, ripped out the tail taking the final four wickets in the space of 21 balls.

Cricket: Six wickets for Broad as England enforce follow-on

England paceman Stuart Broad destroyed New Zealand's batting with an impressive six-wicket haul, allowing the tourists to enforce the follow-on at Basin Reserve on Saturday. Broad finished with six for 51 from 17.2 overs of precision pace bowling as the home side collapsed to 254 all out, 211 runs short of England's first innings total of 465. The last five New Zealand wickets fell for just 65 runs after a 100-run partnership between Brendon McCullum and BJ Watling threatened to build a competitive total.

Cricket: New Zealand fighting to avoid follow on

New Zealand were Saturday fighting for survival on the third day of the second cricket Test against England as they went to lunch at 169 for five, needing a further 97 runs to avoid the follow on. Their last recognised batsmen were at the crease with Brendon McCullum not out 52 and BJ Watling on 19 as the England bowlers hunted for a break to get into the bottom order. New Zealand resumed the day at three for 66 and needing to get through to 266 to avoid the follow on after England posted 465 in their first innings.

England firmly in control of second test v NZ

By Greg Stutchbury WELLINGTON (Reuters) - Peter Fulton and Kane Williamson guided New Zealand through to 77 for one in their second innings at the close of play on the third day of the second test at the Basin Reserve on Saturday though England were firmly in control of the match. Fulton was on 41 while Williamson was 16 not out as the hosts were still 134 runs from making England bat again and needing the rain predicted for late on Sunday to arrive earlier than expected to save the match.

New Zealand, who elected to field first, bowled out South Africa for 208 on a slow pitch after debutant Mitchell McClenaghan and off-spinner Kane Williamson stifled the hosts by taking four wickets apiece. Faf Du Plessis (57) was the only South African to reach the half-century mark.
