Trinidad opens tour with Back-to-back T20 wins

Trinidad and Tobago women’s cricket team had triumphant starts to their tour of South Africa by winning their two T20 matches in contrasting styles over the weekend. The visitors opened with a crushing nine wicket win over Gauteng but later were forced to scrape through needing a super over to pull-off a two run win over Northerns. A decent all round performance from Kirbyina Alexander led Trinidad who bundled out Gauteng for only 42 runs in 18.4 overs with no batswoman reaching double figures. Samantha Bissoon took two wickets for four runs while Alexander bagged two for six.

England captain Alastair Cook believes his team could be on the verge of a period of sustained dominance which would peak with a World Cup triumph in two years. Australian pace bowler James Pattinson will have abdominal surgery on Friday, sidelining him from playing in the Indian Premier League but not the Ashes, Cricket Australia said on Thursday. CA said Pattinson would have surgery for a "non-cricket related medical condition", putting him out of action for a month. Pattinson, 22, who was due to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the April-May IPL, will be racing the clock to return in time for Australia's ICC Champions Trophy campaign in England, which begins with a one-day match against the hosts on June 8.

Misbah told reporters on Thursday that he had instead decided to adopt a more aggressive and positive approach to batting after being criticised for his slow displays. "I have discussed this with all my players and they all agreed that overall we all needed to be more positive while batting and put aside fears of losing our wicket," Misbah said.

South Africa handed Test Championship mace

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa were officially rewarded for their number one test status on Thursday after being handed the International Cricket Council Test Championship mace and a cheque for $450,000 (297,108 pounds). It is the first time since the current ranking system was introduced in 2003 that South Africa has finished as the number one test side on the April 1 cut-off date. The mace was handed to Proteas captain Graeme Smith in a ceremony at the Wanderers.
