US police to charge brothers after 10-year kidnap

US police interrogated three brothers Wednesday as grim details began to emerge about how three young Ohio women were kidnapped and held captive for 10 years in an unremarkable city home. Cleveland police chief Michael McGrath said he expected the trio, a group of men in their fifties, to be charged later in the day after a crime that left many wondering how it could have gone undetected for so long.

Cruel irony haunts child's death in Boston blasts

Eight-year-old Martin Richard died near the Boston marathon's 26-mile marker -- the one dedicated to the young victims of the Newtown massacre. The boy was among the three dead and more than 170 injured when two bombs went off within seconds of each other on a sunny Monday afternoon near the finish line of the world's oldest international foot race. Also killed was restaurant manager, Krystie Campbell, 29, of Medford, Massachusetts. Her father William Campbell told local media she had gone with her best friend to photograph the latter's boyfriend cross the finish line.

New York car crash 'miracle baby' dies

A New York baby who was safely delivered after a car accident that killed his parents has also died, police said Monday. The baby was dubbed a "miracle" in the US media when he survived an emergency C-section delivery after his parents, Orthodox Jews from Brooklyn, were struck in a fatal hit-and-run accident on Sunday. However the boy, who was delivered prematurely at seven months, also perished early Monday, a spokesman for the New York Police Department told AFP.

LOS ANGELES, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Actor, writer and comedian Steve Martin has become a dad for the first time at age 67 - and managed to keep it secret from the media for more than a month. Martin and his second wife, Anne Stringfield, 41, "are new parents and recently welcomed a child," a spokeswoman for the actor said on Wednesday. The spokeswoman gave no details, including the sex of the child or the date of birth. But the New York Post cited unidentified sources as saying the baby arrived in December.
