Chinese Premier Li Keqiang arrives in Pakistan Wednesday for a two-day visit where he will meet prime minister-elect Nawaz Sharif as the long-time allies look to boost trade ties. Pakistan's Imran Khan to leave hospital

Pakistani politician Imran Khan is to leave hospital on Wednesday, his party and medics said Tuesday, two weeks after breaking bones in his back in a fall at an election rally. The 60-year-old was ordered by doctors to remain immobile in a hospital bed with fractured vertebrae and a broken rib after falling from a hoist raising him to the stage at a rally just days before the May 11 general election. Shireen Mazari, spokeswoman for Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party, said the former cricket star was feeling better and had managed to walk in hospital.

Former Pakistani dictator Musharraf granted bail

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - A Pakistani court on Monday granted bail to former army chief and president Pervez Musharraf who has been under house arrest on charges of failing to provide adequate security for former prime minister Benazir Bhutto before her 2007 assassination. Musharraf, who took power in a 1999 coup, returned to Pakistan in March after nearly four years of self-imposed exile to contest a May 11 general election, but he was disqualified from standing because of pending court cases.

Pakistan court grants Musharraf bail in Bhutto murder

A Pakistani court Monday granted bail to former military ruler Pervez Musharraf over the murder of Benazir Bhutto, an official said, but the retired general remains under house arrest. Musharraf has been detained in his farmhouse on the edge of Islamabad since April 19 on charges of conspiracy to murder two-time prime minister Bhutto, who was assassinated in a gun and bomb attack in 2007 in Rawalpindi. "General Musharraf's bail has been confirmed" by an anti-terrorism court in the garrison town of Rawalpindi, next to Islamabad, court official Mohammad Aslam Joya told AFP.

They managed to extract her from the ruins in an operation broadcast live on television and watched by crowds at the scene who were asked by clerics to pray for her rescue.

Pakistani sports hero-cum-politician Khan injured in fall from stage

Former Pakistan cricketer Imran Khan, now head of the Teheik e-Insaf political party, was knocked unconscious when he accidently fell while being lifted to a stage during a campaign stop in Lahore on Tuesday evening. "He has received a head injury, but is out of danger," party spokesman Shireen Mazari told reporters. Khan, who has been on a relentless campaign for Saturday's election, was about to address a meeting in a market in Lahore.

U.S. names veteran diplomat Dobbins as new envoy to Afghanistan/Pakistan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has appointed veteran U.S. diplomat James Dobbins as Washington's new special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell said on Friday. Dobbins, head of international security and defense at the RAND National Defense Research Institute and a former senior U.S. diplomat, will replace Marc Grossman as special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Explosives-laden car found near home of Pakistan's Musharraf

Islamabad, Apr 23 (EFE).- Pakistani police on Tuesday found a vehicle loaded with explosives near the residence of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, who since last week has been under house arrest. Security forces found 40 kilograms of explosives, two detonators and a number of grenades in a small car near the mansion of the retired general on the outskirts of Islamabad, Dawn newspaper said. Musharraf, who was the target of a number of terrorist attacks during his 1999-2008 rule, has been threatened with death by several insurgent groups.
