Football: Roux double lifts Lille past Monaco and into second

Nolan Roux scored the goals in Lille's fully deserved 2-0 defeat of Monaco on Sunday which lifted the former French champions into second behind Paris Saint Germain. Roux's goals either side of the break extended Lille's run to seven games unbeaten and without conceding a goal and inflicted the first loss of the season on Monaco. On paper this had looked a tough test for Lille against Claudio Ranieri's men who had begun the weekend level on points with table toppers PSG.

Football: Marseille stop the rot at Rennes

Marseille's worrying losing five-match run finally came to an end at Rennes on Saturday in a 1-1 draw marked by a saved penalty from Marseille captain Steve Mandanda. Rennes's Portuguese striker Nelson Oliveira put the hosts in front from 20 metres on nine minutes, only for his effort to be cancelled out by Jordan Ayew after quarter of an hour. With a lack of concentration in the Rennes defence Ayew struck right-footed from near the penalty spot for the Ghana striker's first goal in 10 months of Ligue 1 action.

Soccer-Marseille striker Jordan Ayew to miss PSG clash

PARIS, Feb 15 (Reuters) - Jordan Ayew will miss Olympique Marseille's clash at arch rivals Paris St Germain after the Ghana striker was suspended for two games following his red card in Ligue 1 last weekend, the French league said on Friday. Ayew picked up two yellow cards in the space of two minutes soon after coming on as a substitute in his team's 1-1 draw at Evian Thonon Gaillard. Team mate Kassim Abdallah, who was also sent off against Evian, was handed a two-match ban but with one game suspended.

Soccer-Mandanda to blame as Marseille drop two points

PARIS, Jan 26 (Reuters) - A blunder by goalkeeper Steve Mandanda cost title hopefuls Olympique Marseille two points as they conceded a last-gasp goal to draw 2-2 at Stade Rennes in Ligue 1 on Saturday. OM looked set for a deserved win after Jordan Ayew had given them a 2-1 lead in the 82nd minute, but Rennes equalised when Mandanda mishandled a routine cross from Abdoulaye Sane. The ball bounced on to the near post and into the path of Romain Alessandrini who poked it home two minutes from time.

(Add quotes, details) PARIS, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Third-placed Olympique Marseille missed their chance to draw level with Ligue 1 leaders Olympique Lyon after slumping to a 3-1 defeat at 10-man Sochaux on a freezing Sunday. Playing under heavy snowfall, Sloan Privat headed home a Rafael Dias corner kick in the 18th minute and Cedric Bakambu made it 2-0 five minutes before the interval. Marseille's hopes of staging a comeback were shattered a minute into the second half when Jeremy Morel scored an own goal.
