Tennis: Ivanovic topples Jaksic in final

Ana Ivanovic defeated Jovana Jaksic in straight sets in an all-Serbian final of the WTA Tour's Monterrey Open on Sunday. The second-seeded Ivanovic rolled over the unseeded Jaksic 6-2, 6-1 in just over an hour on the hardcourts to capture her 13th singles title and second of the season. Ivanovic, who earned $110,000 with the win, fired four aces and saved five-of-seven break points. She beat Danish star Caroline Wozniacki in the semi-finals to reach the championship match. The 20-year-old Jaksic was searching for her first WTA Tour singles crown.

Denmark's Wozniacki advances to Monterrey Open quarterfinals

Mexico City, Apr 3 (EFE).- Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki cruised to a 6-3, 6-4 victory over France's Kristina Mladenovic to advance to the quarterfinals of the Monterrey Open. The world No. 14 came out on fire to win the first five games of Wednesday's match, serving solidly and not giving her opponent any options. Mladenovic got one break back toward the end of the first set but it was too little too late. In the second set, Wozniacki took an early lead before the Frenchwoman broke back to even the score at 2-2.

World number two Li Na posted a straight set victory over 11th seeded Caroline Wozniacki in the quarter-finals of the WTA and ATP Miami Masters tournament on Wednesday. China's Li won 63 percent of her first serve points and 79 of 150 total points in the match which lasted just over two hours. China's Li Na rolled over Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets to reach the semi-finals of the WTA Miami tournament, where she will face Dominika Cibulkova in an rematch of the Australian Open final. Second seeded Li posted a 7-5, 7-5 win over 11th seeded Wozniacki while Cibulkova saved three match points in a gritty three-set victory, 3-6, 7-6 (7/5), 6-3, over third-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska on the hardcourts at Crandon Park. The 10th-seeded Cibulkova will break into the top 10 in the world rankings for the first time on the strength of her victory.

Cornet stuns Serena to prevent all-Williams Dubai final

Cornet's heroics have earned her a final appearance against Venus Williams, Serena's older sister, who earlier trounced Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 6-2 under a fading desert sun.

Venus Williams reached only her second final in 16 months and brought closer the possibility of an all-Williams sisters final for the first time in more than four years when winning her Dubai Open semi-final on Friday. Venus sealed her place in the final with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Caroline Wozniacki, in which she dominated the former world number one from Denmark from start to finish with her heavier, and sometimes cleverly angled, driving.
