SEOUL, March 10 (Yonhap) -- Britain's fashion house Burberry filed a patent violation suit against SBW, a South Korean underwear maker, with a Seoul court Monday for using its trademark check pattern. In the suit filed with the Seoul Central District Court, Burberry seeks a court order to ban the sales or production of the underwear products, and demands 100 million won (US$93,799) in compensation.

The group said in a statement that its Burberry Check material was a registered trademark exclusively owned by Burberry and it was confident its appeal would be successful. "No other parties can use the mark without Burberry's proper authorisation. Burberry always takes the strongest possible action against those who use its trademarks unlawfully."

Burberry says interim net profits surge by a third

British luxury fashion group Burberry said Thursday that first-half net profits soared by a third, as revenues raced past £1.0 billion ($1.6 billion, 1.2 billion euros) for the first time. Earnings after taxation jumped to £112.7 million in the six months to September 30, compared with the same part of its previous financial year, Burberry said in a results statement. The company added that revenues jumped 17 percent to £1.03 billion in the period on keen global demand for its luxury clothing and accessories.
