Football: Euro stars Bayern, Dortmund set to rotate

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund get back to Bundesliga business on Saturday, fresh from their midweek Champions League semi-final triumphs, and with both teams set to rotate their squads ahead of the return legs. With Bayern having long-since been confirmed as league champions and Dortmund eight points clear of the chasing pack in second, both teams can be forgiven for being preoccupied by their forthcoming trips to Spain.

By Jens Hack MUNICH (Reuters) - A senior figure in Chancellor Angela Merkel's sister party quit on Thursday over criticism he paid his wife a hefty salary for working for him, a distraction for Germany's Christian Social Union five months before two elections. The CSU, Bavaria's version of Merkel's Christian Democrats, has already come under pressure over allegations that the state premier Horst Seehofer had known for months that football club Bayern Munich's president had dodged taxes.

Evonik shares begin trading in Frankfurt

Shares in German speciality chemicals maker Evonik Industries began trading at a price of 33 euros on the Frankfurt stock exchange Thursday, in what is being flagged the biggest public listing in Germany this year. Evonik shares are officially listed on the regulated markets in both Frankfurt and Luxembourg from Thursday. Evonik and its owners RAG Foundation and the private equity firm CVC Capital Partners said in a joint statement that the private placement of a total 10.718 million shares the day before had been successful, raising 345.1 million euros ($450 million).

Uli Hoeness, the Bayern Munich president and an associate of Merkel, revered and reviled in Germany for his footballing success and blunt style, said he was trying to make up for a mistake by telling officials about a secret Swiss bank account.
