Colorado theater massacre victims denied access to evidence for civil lawsuits

By Keith Coffman DENVER (Reuters) - The Colorado Supreme Court has denied victims of the 2012 theater massacre access to evidence from the ongoing criminal case to use in their civil lawsuits against the cinema's owners, an order made public on Tuesday showed. Victims have filed numerous lawsuits in both federal and state court against Texas-based Cinemark, stemming from the mass shooting at a suburban Denver cinema during a midnight screening of the Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises."

S. Koreans are the world's top moviegoers: CGV

SEOUL, Dec. 22 (Yonhap) -- South Koreans make up the largest group of moviegoers in the world, a local cinema chain said, quoting data from a foreign media research company. South Koreans saw an average of 4.12 movies per person in theaters this year, making the country the world's no. 1 for the first time, the local cinema chain CGV said, quoting recent data from Britain's Screen Digest, one of the world's leading media-focused research companies.

Mexican regulators reject theater chains' merger

Mexico City, Aug 12 (EFE).- The Federal Competition Commission, or CFC, said Monday it rejected the purchase by the Cinemex theater chain of competitor Cinemark on the grounds that the merger of "two of the three companies that currently control more than 95 percent of the screens" in Mexico and have a share of the same percentage of moviegoers would harm consumers.

Cinemark sells Mexican unit to Cinemex

Mexico City, Feb 19 (EFE).- U.S.-based Cinemark Holdings, which operates 5,207 screens at 461 movie theaters in the United States and across Latin America, said it planned to sell its Mexican unit to Cinemex. Cinemark's Mexican subsidiary operates 290 screens at 31 movie theaters. "Cinemark will sell all of the issued and outstanding shares of capital stock of Cinemark de Mexico S.A. de C.V. and its subsidiaries to Grupo Cinemex, S.A. de C.V. and Cadena Mexicana de Exhibicion, S.A. de C.V. ("Cinemex")," the Plano, Texas-based company said in a statement.
