Oil prices fall

Oil prices fell on Tuesday on profit-taking one day after Russia-Ukraine tensions had sent them higher. New York's main contract, West Texas Intermediate for May delivery, slid 86 cents to stand at $103.19 compared with Monday's closing level. Brent North Sea crude for May was down 32 cents to $108.75 a barrel in London morning trade. The market had marched higher on Monday as traders kept a wary eye on escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine that have raised fears of a disruption to energy supplies to Western Europe.

Gas prices continue to rise, reaching $3.61 for a gallon of regular gasoline

CAMARILLO, Calif. - The average U.S. price of a gallon of gasoline has risen 5 cents in the past two weeks. The Lundberg Survey of fuel prices released Sunday says the price of a gallon of regular is $3.61, the highest price in Lundberg's twice-monthly surveys since late July 2013. But the current price is 4 cents under its year ago point. Midgrade costs an average of $3.79 a gallon, and premium $3.94. The average diesel price is $4.00, down 2 cents.

Japan's wholesale prices up 1.8% in Feb. on year

Japan's wholesale prices rose 1.8 percent in February from a year earlier for the 11th straight monthly increase, as a weakening yen increased material and fuel prices, the Bank of Japan said Wednesday. The index of corporate goods prices stood at 102.8 against the 2010 base of 100, the central bank said in a preliminary report.

Survey: US average gas price jumps 10 cents per gallon

CAMARILLO, Calif. - The average U.S. price of a gallon of gasoline has jumped 10 cents over the past two weeks. The Lundberg Survey of fuel prices released Sunday says the price of a gallon of regular is $3.51. Midgrade costs an average of $3.69 a gallon, and premium is $3.84. Diesel was up three cents over the past two weeks at $4.03. Of the cities surveyed in the Lower 48 states, Los Angeles has the nation's highest average price for gas at $3.94. Jackson, Miss., has the lowest at $3.18.

According to the Lundberg Survey released Sunday, the average nationwide for a gallon of regular is now $3.31. Midgrade averages $3.50 and premium is $3.65. Of cities surveyed in the Lower 48 states, the lowest price, $2.94, was in Billings, Mont. San Diego, Calif., had the highest price at $3.60. In California, prices for a gallon of regular dropped nearly 8 cents to $3.54.

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexico's annual inflation picked up more than expected to a six-month high in early December on higher gasoline and tomato prices, but policymakers expect inflation to trend down next year. Inflation for the 12 months though the first half of December jumped to 3.86 percent, the national statistics office said on Monday, above forecasts for a rise of 3.82 percent in a Reuters poll and the highest rate since the first half of June.

According to the Lundberg Survey released Sunday, the average for a gallon of regular is now $3.26. Midgrade averages $3.46 and premium is $3.61. Of cities surveyed in the Lower 48 states, the lowest price, $2.84 a gallon, was in Tulsa, Okla. Long Island, N.Y. had the highest, at $3.62. Just a penny less was Los Angeles with an average of $3.61. The lowest price in California was in Sacramento, $3.40.

US wholesale prices decline by 0.2 per cent in October, as gas costs fall sharply

WASHINGTON - U.S. wholesale prices fell in October for the second straight month, driven down again by cheaper gasoline costs. The Labor Department said Thursday that the producer price index, which measures prices before they reach the consumer, dropped 0.2 per cent in October. That followed a 0.1 per cent decline in September. The cost of gas plunged 3.8 per cent last month, lowering the index. Over the past 12 months, energy costs have kept inflation weak. Prices have increased just 0.3 per cent in that stretch.

Fuel prices jump in New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador

MONCTON, N.B. - Fuel prices are on the rise in New Brunswick and Newfoundland. It's the first time in six weeks that the price of gas has risen in New Brunswick. The new maximum price for regular self-serve gasoline is now $1.27 per litre — an increase of 2.1 cents. The price of diesel has jumped 1.3 cents per litre, and furnace oil is up 1.4 cents. In Newfoundland and Labrador, the price of gas has jumped by two cents, and diesel rose by 1.5 cents. (CJMO, VOCM)
