Humana says government shutdown delays military health payments

(Reuters) - Humana Inc, the managed care company, said on Tuesday the U.S. government shutdown would delay payments related to its military health services contract and that it could be liable for up to $175 million worth of claims if the payments do not come through. Humana provides administrative services to the government for healthcare, with the federal government covering the cost of the benefits and associated risk.

Chief Executive Officer Bruce Broussard said while government cutbacks to private Medicare plans for the elderly planned for 2014 were 'onerous', he still anticipates growth in sales of these plans directly to individuals.

Both men are keen amateur golfers and Clinton believes Obama would relish a trip to the California desert to see what the $5.6 million PGA Tour event is doing away from the course to help raise awareness about health.
