Insight: Luxury brands position for U.S. boom

Ephraim is the kind of man who gives luxury goods makers high hopes that the U.S. market can fuel future growth, as China runs out of steam and demand in Europe sags.

Nicholas Kirkwood opens Las Vegas Store

The British shoe designer has become a red carpet favorite with Hollywood's A-list and this year opens his second store in the US.  Nicholas Kirkwood has unveiled a new 1,400-square-foot store located in Las Vegas' Wynn hotel. It is the designer's second opening in the United States after his New York City flagship.  The designer also took the opportunity to unveil the relaunched Nicholas Kirkwood website and e-commerce platform.  Alongside the main lines are a number of exclusive Vegas styles that Kirkwood has created especially for the occasion.

Cannes film festival hit by second jewelry theft

CANNES (Reuters) - The Cannes film festival was hit by a second jewelry heist on Thursday after a diamond necklace worth 2 million euros ($2.6 million) disappeared during a star-studded party, according to upmarket jeweler De Grisogono. Fawaz Gruosi, the founder of the Swiss firm, said the necklace was part of the company's 20th anniversary collection paraded by 20 models at the glitzy event at the Hotel Du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes outside Cannes on Tuesday night. Sharon Stone and Paris Hilton were among the guests.

Knives, helmets among creations by CFDA Swarovski nominees

The nominees for this year's CFDA Swarovski Emerging Talent Award have created stunning crystal-embellished pieces including knives and crash helmets to raise money for a children's art charity.  The 2013 nominees for the CFDA and Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent were feted at New York City fashion  boutique Fivestory on May 21, ahead of the ceremony on June 3.

Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld stage photo exhibition

The creative director of Italian luxury label Fendi will oversee an exhibition of his photographs featuring some of Rome's most beautiful fountains. Lagerfeld was in Rome earlier this year for the announcement that Fendi would be restoring the city's historic Trevi fountains. "I'm very happy because I think it's a very good idea," said the German-born fashion legend back in February. "I think the fashion world is lucky because a few labels like Fendi and others do well enough that they can pay for this kind of restoration," he added.
