Football: United fans aim for right to buy Old Trafford

A Manchester United supporters group has made an application to be given the opportunity to buy Old Trafford should the iconic stadium ever be put up for sale. United's owners, the Glazer family, are not looking to sell United's world-famous home, where they have played since 1910. But that has not stopped the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) submitting a nomination to the local Trafford Council for the ground to be registered as an 'Asset of Community Value'.

Football: Man Utd, Aon sign training ground deal

Manchester United on Monday said they had signed an eight-year deal worth a reported £156 million ($240 million) with US insurance broker Aon to sponsor the club's training ground and training kit. The English Premier League leaders' Carrington training ground will be renamed the Aon Training Complex and the insurer will replace logistics firm DHL as training kit sponsor, according to a statement on manutd.com. It has previously been announced that Aon will become the main partner of the Manchester United Business Network and sponsor the Manchester United Foundation.

The commercial appeal of the Premier League giants means they can do separate sponsorship deals for their training kit and the famous red shirts they play in. It is the first time United have sold naming rights to their training ground in Carrington on the outskirts of Manchester in northern England.

LONDON, Jan 22 (Reuters) - Premier League soccer club Manchester United have taken full ownership of their in-house television channel by buying out a minority stake held by pay TV broadcaster BSkyB. MUTV was set up as a three-way joint venture in 1998 between the club, BSkyB and commercial broadcaster ITV. United acquired ITV's stake in 2007 and said the latest deal would allow it control over content and distribution of a channel available in 57 countries.

Man Utd broadens palette with Japanese paint sponsorship

By Keith Weir LONDON, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Manchester United signed a three-year sponsorship deal with Japanese paint maker Kansai on Friday, proving the English soccer club's global fan base gives it an appeal stretching way beyond consumer brands. Not surprisingly, Kansai is the first official paint partner signed up by United, 19 times English champions and nicknamed "The Red Devils".
