Nestle invests $130 mn in Mexico instant coffee plant

Mexico City, May 18 (EFE).- Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto inaugurated a 1.6-billion-peso ($130-million) expansion of a Nestle instant coffee factory in the central city of Toluca. The project has boosted the plant's productive capacity by 30 percent, making it the world's biggest facility of its kind, Nestle Mexico CEO Marcelo Melchior said during Friday's ceremony. The factory, which covers a 14-hectare (34-acre) area, will supply the Mexican, U.S., Central American, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Japanese markets, the Swiss food giant said in a statement.

Mexico opposition revives economic reform pact

Fitch upgrades Mexico credit rating over reform drive

Fitch Ratings upgraded Mexico's sovereign credit rating on Wednesday, citing what it called the country's strong economic fundamentals and commitment to structural reforms. The international ratings agency increased Mexico's credit score by one notch to BBB+ from BBB and stated that its rating outlook was stable. "The upgrade of Mexico's sovereign ratings reflects its strong macroeconomic fundamentals, including the absence of macro-financial imbalances, consistent adherence to its inflation targeting and flexible exchange rate regimes," Fitch said in a statement.

Mexican gov't proposes bank reforms to spur growth

Mexico City, May 9 (EFE).- The Mexican government proposed a bank reform package aimed at spurring lending and promoting economic growth. The package, which has the support of the main opposition parties, was unveiled at a ceremony Wednesday by President Enrique Peña Nieto. The initiative's goal is to get banks to "lend more and more cheaply," the president said. Peña Nieto was joined at the ceremony by the leaders of the political parties that signed the Pact for Mexico.

Mexican journalists' sons killed; seven bodies found near Mexico City

Alfredo Paramo, 20, and Diego Paramo, 21, were shot dead in Chihuahua early on Saturday after being chased through the streets by gunmen in a car, said spokesman Carlos Gonzalez.
