Mexico City, Apr 1 (EFE).- Four people, including a U.S. citizen, were killed and 17 others wounded in attacks staged by gunmen on two bars in Guadalajara, the capital of the western Mexican state of Jalisco, state officials said Monday. The first attack occurred Sunday night when a gunman fired shots and threw a grenade into the Ruta 66 bar in Guadalajara's Cristobal de Oñate district, the Jalisco Attorney General's Office said in a statement.

Mexican consumer protection agency files suit against Telmex

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - The Mexican government's consumer protection agency said on Sunday it had opened a class action lawsuit against Carlos Slim's fixed line phone company Telmex for making illegal charges. Rafael Ochoa, a legal expert at the federal prosecutor's office for the consumer (Profeco), said Telmex had made unwarranted charges for a privacy service and that Profeco had filed the suit with a federal civil court in Mexico City.

Mexican president grants citizenship to 178 foreigners

Mexico City, Mar 28 (EFE).- Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto attended the naturalization ceremony for 178 foreign citizens, including people from Chile, Uruguay, the Czech Republic and Morocco. "Today, they receive this certificate and with it they become proud Mexicans. The door opens for new opportunities and great expectations with it, and I am sure that each of you have this in your hearts," the president said.

Mexico says Obama to visit in May

US President Barack Obama will visit Mexico in May, accepting an invitation from President Enrique Pena Nieto to discuss security, immigration and trade, the Mexican government said Wednesday. The two leaders, who held telephone talks on Wednesday, will meet during the first week of May in a gathering that will "reaffirm the strategic importance of the bilateral relationship," the foreign ministry said.

Mexican state oil company takes delivery of tanker from South Korean shipyard

Mexico City, Mar 26 (EFE).- Oil giant Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, said it took delivery of the third of four ships it ordered from South Korea's SPP Shipbuilding Group to overhaul its fleet. The Texistepec arrived Monday in Salina Cruz, a port in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, joining the Centla and the Jaguarundi, which were delivered in February, in Pemex's tanker fleet. The new vessel will be used to deliver fuel to the terminals in the Pacific port cities of Acapulco, Lazaro Cardens, Manzanillo, Mazatlan, Topolobampo, Guaymas, La Paz and Rosarito, Pemex said.
