Ivan Dodig feared he might die and Serena Williams said the high temperatures were making her "paranoid" Wednesday as sweltering conditions continued at the Australian Open. With temperatures above 40 Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) for the second straight day, Dodig became the latest casualty when he retired with severe cramp after four sets against Bosnia's Damir Dzumhur. "I was thinking I could maybe even die here," said Dodig, calling for an afternoon break in play. "It's not acceptable to play in these conditions," he added, according to reports.

Tennis: Britain back in Davis Cup World Group

Andy Murray secured Britain's return to the Davis Cup World Group after a five-year absence when he defeated Croatia's Ivan Dodig 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 in a playoff rubber at Umag on Sunday. That made the match score 3-1 in Britain's favour with just the second of the reverse singles to follow. Wimbledon and Olympic champion Murray won his opening singles on Friday and teamed up with Colin Fleming to win the doubles on Saturday.

Nadal roars into fourth round over Dodig

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Second-seeded Rafa Nadal extended his 2013 hard court record to 18-0 with a 6-4 6-3 6-3 battering of Ivan Dodig of Croatia on Saturday that sent the Spaniard into the fourth round of the U.S. Open. Nadal, the undisputed King of Clay after winning his eighth French Open earlier this year on the red clay of Roland Garros, continued to show his hard court prowess as he ran the dogged Dodig relentlessly on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Tennis: Wimbledon pull-outs rise to record-equalling 13

Wimbledon suffered a record-equalling 13th injury pullout on Saturday when Dutchman Igor Sijsling quit his third round match against Ivan Dodig of Croatia. Sijsling was trailing 6-0, 6-1, 1-0 when he retired. Dodig has now won two of his three matches at the tournament by retirement after Philipp Kohlschreiber quit in the opening round.
