Tennis: Murray thanks hospital after back surgery

Wimbledon champion Andy Murray thanked medical staff on Tuesday after undergoing surgery on his troublesome back. The 26-year-old world number three underwent the minor procedure to address a disc problem in his lower back on Monday and is likely to be out of action until the end of the year. Croatia have omitted top player Marin Cilic from the Davis Cup side to take on Britain next week, as they have not heard from him since reports he had failed a drug test. Wimbledon suffered a record-equalling 13th injury pullout on Saturday when Dutchman Igor Sijsling quit his third round match against Ivan Dodig of Croatia. Feb 18 (Reuters) - Marin Cilic struggled early before finding his rhythm as the top seed ground out a 4-6 6-2 6-3 victory over friend and Croatian compatriot Ivan Dodig in the first round of the Memphis International on Monday. The top seed is bidding for a second successive title after winning in Zagreb last week and opened his campaign against a familiar foe in Dodig, the pair growing up in the same neighbourhood and often practicing together.
