Soccer-Boca Juniors upset 2-1 at home by Mexico's Toluca

Feb 14 (Reuters) - Six times South American champions Boca Juniors were humbled 2-1 by Toluca of Mexico in their opening Libertadores Cup match at La Bombonera. Boca, losing finalists last year, were leading at halftime in Wednesday's Group One match after their goalkeeper Agustin Orion saved a penalty for the second match in succession. But defensive errors allowed Toluca, who had lost three straight Mexican league games, to snatch a shock victory.

Feb 9 (Reuters) - Title holders Velez Sarsfield made a winning start to Argentina's "Final" championship on Friday after the floodlights failed at both matches. Velez, winners of the "Inicial" championship in December, beat Argentinos Juniors 1-0 at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium through a fine strike from 30 metres by Lucas Pratto. Argentinos had started strongly but a power failure after 12 minutes caused a delay of more than half an hour and on their return to action Velez had adjusted their tactical plans and took control.

Valencia have loaned Argentine midfielder Fernando Gago to Buenos Aires club Velez Sarsfield on loan until the end of the season, the Spanish side announced on their website on Thursday. The Argentine international midfielder only joined Valencia last summer from Real Madrid, where he had fallen out of favour and had been farmed out on loan to Roma. The 26-year-old started his career with Boca Juniors before moving to Real Madrid in January 2007 at the same time as compatriot Gonzalo Higuain.
