Pro Bowl shifting to Arizona for 2015

(Reuters) - The National Football League's 2015 Pro Bowl will be played in Arizona before returning to Hawaii in 2016, the league said on Wednesday in the latest tweak to its all-star game. University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale is slated to host the game on January 25, 2015, one week before the Super Bowl for the 2014 season is played at the same venue. In 2016, the Pro Bowl will return to Hawaii's Aloha Stadium, where it has been contested in 33 of the last 34 years.

All systems go, new season set for smooth launch

By Steve Keating (Reuters) - With no lockouts, no replacement referees no 'Bountygate' and no concussion lawsuit to worry about the spotlight will be back on the field when the National Football League (NFL) season kicks off on Thursday.

NFL-National Football League roundup

March 6 (The Sports Xchange) - The San Francisco 49ers parted ways with six-time Pro Bowl kicker David Akers on Wednesday, and they might not be interested in acquiring four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis. Akers was released by San Francisco on the same day reports indicated the 49ers and the Atlanta Falcons might not pursue the New York Jets' Revis. In two seasons with the 49ers, Akers recorded 297 points -the most in the NFL during that span. He made 73 of 94 field-goal attempts and all 78 points after touchdowns.
