Golf: Welshman Donaldson gets special US PGA membership

Welshman Jamie Donaldson has accepted a special temporary US PGA Tour membership for the remainder of the season, becoming the second European in the past month to do so. The US PGA Tour said Wednesday that Donaldson, who shared second at last week's World Golf Championships event at Doral, would follow the same route as Frenchman Victor Dubuisson did after a runner-up finish at the WGC Match Play last month. Donaldson, 39, became eligible by jumping beyond the lowest US PGA playoff qualifiers' point total from last season.

Golf-Abu Dhabi win proves Donaldson was right not to retire

By Tony Jimenez ABU DHABI, Jan 21 (Reuters) - Jamie Donaldson refused to listen when a doctor told him to quit golf and, nine years on, vindication of his decision to carry on came when the Briton scored the best win of his career at the Abu Dhabi Championship. Donaldson had such a chronic back condition in 2004 that one specialist suggested retirement. But he was given the go-ahead after seeking a second opinion and on Sunday he held aloft the attractive silver Falcon Trophy in the desert.
