US stocks were mixed in early trade Wednesday following the latest batch of mediocre fourth quarter corporate earnings reports.
About 30 minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 17.71 (0.11 percent) to 16,396.73.
The broad-based S&P 500 edged 0.70 (0.04 percent) higher to 1,844.50, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index gained 7.12 (0.17 percent) to 4,232.88.
Many companies' quarterly earnings in recent days have beaten expectations on profit, but have disappointed on profit outlook, revenue or other key benchmarks.
