I am no superman, says Pope Francis

Pope Francis may whip crowds up into a frenzy and have ardent followers across the globe but the pontiff insists he is no "superman". "I don't like... the Pope Francis mythology," he said in an interview marking his first year in office published Wednesday in Italy's Corriere della Sera daily. "Painting the pope as a sort of superman, a sort of star, seems offensive," he said. "The pope is a man who laughs, who cries, who sleeps soundly and has friends like everyone else. A normal person."

Spider-Man stars to lead Earth Hour event

The stars of the movie "Amazing Spider-Man 2" will lead this year's global Earth Hour lights-out event on March 29 which is being coordinated in Singapore, organisers WWF said Thursday. "Spider-Man will join the film's stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx in the event, helping to switch off the lights across Singapore's signature Marina Bay skyline," the environmental campaign group said in a statement.

B.C. politicians switch things up with morning question period in legislature

VICTORIA - British Columbia's politicians are getting early wake-up calls to make it to the legislature on time for their experiment with morning question periods. The traditional afternoon question periods which have been known to quickly degenerate into 30-minute matches of finger-pointing and screaming now start at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So far, politicians say they are adapting to the morning schedule, with Attorney General Suzanne Anton saying she and her Liberal government colleagues are prepared to face New Democrat questions day or night.

US comic artist Watterson wins top French prize

US cartoonist Bill Watterson, author of the worldwide cult series "Calvin and Hobbes", won the top prize Sunday for his craft at France's Angouleme world comic strip festival, organisers said. Watterson, 56, won the grand prix at the 41st edition of the festival, beating Japan's Katsuhiro Otomo ("Akira") and Britain's Alan Moore ("Watchmen"). He was not present to receive his prize, the most prestigious of its kind in the French-speaking world.

Viacom posts 16 pct increase in fiscal 1st-qtr net income on lower film-related losses

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Viacom's net income for the first quarter jumped 16 per cent as lower costs at its film division more than offset a steep drop in revenue there. The New York company, which owns Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount Pictures, got strong results from its TV networks with revenue in that division jumping 6 per cent to $2.54 billion. That was driven by higher affiliate fees and advertising revenue.

Warner Bros pushes Superman-Batman film back to 2016

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Warner Bros. pushed back the release date of the still untitled film that will bring together superheroes Superman and Batman, delaying it by almost a year to May 2016, the studio said on Friday. The sequel to last year's hit Superman film "Man of Steel" was revealed at the Comic-Con convention last July by director Zack Snyder, who said the two DC Comics' caped crusaders will face off against each other.
