WiniaMando workers end strike after takeover deal is canceled

SEOUL, April 15 (Yonhap) -- Assembly lines at WiniaMando Inc., a local home appliances manufacturer, were fully normalized Tuesday after company workers ended their strike when a takeover they were protesting against was canceled. The KG Group had signed a deal in March to take over the company that made its name by introducing the country's first refrigerator specialized for kimchi, an iconic side dish of fermented vegetables. WiniaMando has since expanded its business to include home appliances including dehumidifiers.

China police probe death of girls in washing machine

An investigation into the mysterious death of two young sisters has been launched in eastern China after a family member claimed they died in a washing machine, police said Tuesday. Police in Jiangxi province said they received a call on Sunday enquiring about possible compensation payments for the family of two sisters aged two and three who died after climbing into a washing machine the day before. The caller said the sisters had already been buried, police in the provincial capital Nanchang said on their verified account on Sina Weibo, a Chinese equivalent of Twitter.

S.African children suffocate inside old refrigerator

Three South African children were found dead by a grandparent after becoming stuck in an abandoned refrigerator as they played near their home, police said on Saturday. Their bodies were found Friday in Atamelang, a town in the country's North West province, police spokesman Sergeant Kealeboga Molale said. Two of the victims were four years old and the other was just three. "They go into the refrigerator and it looks like the refrigerator locks itself and they suffocated," Molale said.
