Georgian President carries on Turkey visit despite bicycle accident

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili arrived in Ankara on Tuesday to meet with President Abdullah Gul following talks with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul over the weekend. Saakashvili was welcomed by President Gul at Ankara Esenboga Airport before a tête-à-tête meeting with his Turkish counterpart, in which the leaders talked about bilateral ties and regional as well as international issues. Saakashvili has been paying an official visit to Turkey since April 6 for talks on bilateral issues.

Turkey should be given more active role in resolution of Karabakh question

Turkey should not be isolated from the Nagorno-Karabakh negotiation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia but should instead be a key actor, Azerbaijani politician Isa Gambar has stated. “The most important and effective peace project would be the one that includes Turkey,” said Gambar, the leader of the Equality Party, in an interview with Today's Zaman last week.

Georgia PM backs inquiry into president over 2008 war

Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili on Wednesday backed opening an inquiry into President Mikheil Saakashvili's handling of the brief war Tbilisi fought in August 2008 with Russia. The comments by the billionaire Ivanishivili -- in office since his party's parliamentary election win last year -- are set to ratchet up tensions in the uneasy cohabitation between the two men.

Quake hits Azerbaijani sector of Caspian Sea

Defiant opposition boycotts Armenia leader's inauguration

Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian on Tuesday took oath for a second term in a grand inauguration ceremony boycotted by the opposition who defiantly held a rival event of their own. Sarkisian won February elections in the ex-Soviet state but the second placed candidate Raffi Hovannisian alleged mass violations and still insists that he was the true victor.

Armenian opposition cries foul as president is re-installed

Deputy PM makes public international drug trafficking routes through Azerbaijan

According to him, due to the occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territories by Armenian armed forces, 132 km border of the country has become uncontrolled area. Hasanov said that three international routes for drug trafficking cross through the country.
