Iraq bombings kill 10

Bombings in Iraq, including two car bomb in the northern city of Kirkuk, killed 10 people and wounded 21 others on Wednesday, security and medical officials said. The first bombing in Kirkuk was the deadliest of the attacks, killing eight people and wounding eight, while a second car bomb exploded nearby, wounding seven more, officials said. BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Coordinated blasts killed at least 25 people in the heart of Baghdad on Thursday near the heavily fortified Green Zone, where several Western embassies are located, police and medics said. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the explosions, but Sunni Muslim insurgents have been redoubling their efforts to undermine Iraq's Shi'ite-led government and foment inter-communal conflict this year.

Four dead in new suicide attack near Baghdad

A suicide car bomb against a joint army-police patrol near Baghdad killed at least four people on Tuesday, the second such attack in the town of Taji in as many days, officials said. Three soldiers were among the four killed in the blast that struck at around 11:00 am (0800 GMT) in Taji, 25 kilometres (15 miles) north of Baghdad, security and medical officials said. Twelve others were wounded in the attack, they said. The bomber targeted a military-police patrol near a prison in the town, the officials added.
