Football: Libya boost hopes of first World Cup appearance

Libya moved closer to a first World Cup appearance after defeating Togo 2-0 in Tripoli Friday. The Mediterranean Knights have nine points from five games in Group I -- three more than Cameroon -- with a September fixture in Yaounde to come. Cameroon are away to the Democratic Republic of Congo Sunday and their chances of making the play-offs would greatly diminish if they lose. Libya have nine points, Cameroon six, DR Congo five and Togo are out of the running with four as only group winners advance to the 10-team final stage.

Soccer-Adebayor goal gives talisman hope for the future

By Mike Collett RUSTENBURG, South Africa, Jan 27 (Reuters) - Emmanuel Adebayor has had a problematic first half of the season for both his country Togo and his club Tottenham Hotspur but is hoping Saturday's goal in their 2-0 African Nations Cup win over Algeria is a pointer to a brighter future. The singularly most important figure in Togo's soccer history now seems fully fit and appears to be at peace with national coach Didier Six and the Togolese football federation.
