Golf: 'Royal' Tiger leads Dubai all-star line-up

Tiger Woods will join 20 other former champions to mark the 25th anniversary of the Dubai Desert Classic later this month, the leading event official said Saturday. Woods will also be joined by Javier Ballesteros who will represent his late father Seve at the event commencing on January 30 at the Emirates Club. Woods is a two-time former Dubai Desert Classic winner and has been enticed to Dubai to compete for a first occasion since 2011 after teeing up the past two years in nearby Abu Dhabi.

Golf: Stenson named European Tour player of the year

Sweden's Henrik Stenson crowned a remarkable season on Tuesday when he was named the European Tour's Golfer of the Year for 2013. The 37-year-old, the first man from his country to win the award, made history this year by winning both the FedEx Cup and The Race to Dubai -- the order of merit competitions in the United States and Europe. "It's a big honour to be voted the European Tour Golfer of the Year," Stenson said.

The European PGA Tour on Sunday unveiled its schedule for the coming year, confirming that The Race to Dubai system has been extended for another four years. The Race to Dubai, the 2013 edition of which culminates in the Gulf emirate on Sunday, replaced the European Order of Merit in 2009, with four former world number ones - Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, Luke Donald and Rory McIlroy - taking top honours since then.

Woods to play in new $7 million Turkish Open

The $7 million event at the Montgomerie Maxx Royal course in Belek will form part of the new Final Series on the Race to Dubai, Europe's lucrative end-of-season equivalent of the U.S. Tour's FedExCup competition.
