Motorcycling: Pedrosa wins in France, takes MotoGP lead

Honda's Dani Pedrosa won the French MotoGP at Le Mans on Sunday from Cal Crutchlow to take the lead in the world championship standings. The Spaniard, following up his win in Spain last time out, made light of the tricky early wet conditions to cross the line five seconds clear of Crutchlow. The Briton manfully shrugged off a fracture to his right shin in a crash in qualifying 24 hours earlier to notch up his best ever MotoGP result.

Motorcycling: Briton Redding wins French Moto2 GP

Briton Scott Redding won the French Moto2 Grand Prix at Le Mans on Sunday, the Kalex rider followed home by his teammates Mika Kallio and Xavier Simeon. Redding, who now takes over as leader in the Moto2 world championship standings, hit the front on lap eight and never relinquished the lead, with the 26-lap race stopped three laps early due to rain. syd/nr/bc

Motorcycling: Marquez on pole in France

Spain's championship leader Marc Marquez will start on pole in Sunday's French MotoGP on the Bugatti circuit at Le Mans after coming out on top in Saturday's qualifying. Marquez, on a Honda, claimed the 30th pole position of his career, his second in the sport's elite category, by coming in 0.03 seconds faster than compatriot Jorge Lorenzo on his Yamaha. Andrea Dovizioso of Italy, on a Ducati, will start from third place after coming in 0.416sec behind Marquez.

Nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi targets an 80th career MotoGP win on Sunday at the French Grand Prix, where he also hopes to break his duck for the season. The Italian Yamaha star currently sits at fourth in the world championship, 18 points behind surprise leader Marc Marquez on a Honda. Rossi is in the middle of an alarming winning drought with his 79th and last triumph coming in Malaysia in October 2010 before he switched to his unsuccessful two-year spell at Ducati. But his career statistics are still beyond the reach of his title rivals.
